View Full Version : Powder Coating at Auto Shops?
Well a friend told me that some auto shops do powder coating jobs - is that true? I'd like to redo my frame on my HiCapa and the controls, maybe even the sights.

your best bet for powdercoating is to find a shop that does only powdercoating. a lot of auto shops just sub it out to places like that and add a fee. powdercoat is usually very strong but very thick as well, might be too thick for an application that requires a precise fit. try to find a friend with a bike that has powdercoated wheels n take a look around any raised text, there is usually where u can see the thickness.
just my .02
if the material is aluminum anodizing would be the way to go i would think.
Well most of the frame/controls is pot metal, but the slide is CNC aluminum. Could you explain anodizing a bit more?
Powder coating is pretty thick and glossy. If your gun starting to look little bad from wear and tear. I say spray paint the thing, their is a paint out their you can buy that is great and makes it more concealment then the plain old black finish. I got the name of it, but not on the top of my head right now.

anodizing is when the color is bonded to the metal, its most popular with aluminum but can also work on titanium. its durable in that to remove the paint, you gotta remove the metal with it.
personally im with doc, go to any craft store like michaels and find some flat finish black paint pen, or some with those mini nail polish type brushed and do your touchups, i've done it in the past and it works out fine.
EDIT: as for looking glossy, they do make different finishes, matte and chrome like, theres a whole bunch. I had some of my old atv stuff ordered in a textured almost grip-tape like finish, but in any event its still going to be thick.
If you want to paint your gun, look at Krylon. They make a camouflage specific spray paint that comes in a few different colors.

That is it...thanks Laxin. They make a couple of colors so you can really camo out some stuff, just make sure you break your gun down and protect all internals from the paint.
When I finally get my two G36C's deck out from one end to the other, I will be painting them to help break up the color. Black stands out more then people think.
the only downside to painting, is that you take away from the re-sale value if someone doesnt want that color setup or doesnt want their gun to have coats of paint on it.
Well, that's why you should only paint the gun if you want to keep it...
Well I mean, who doesn't like a silver gun? :P
Issue with that is I can't paint in my dorm room, and I'm not aware that Krylon has a chrome color.
yea you can.......have a party make charge a cover fee and let them eat the fumes......lol
jus tbe sure that u have a osha mask on....lol
